Bangkalan, August 23, 2025 – The Agribusiness Study Program at Universitas Trunojoyo Madura (UTM) has taken another step in strengthening ties between the campus and families of its students. On Saturday, August 23, 2025, the program successfully hosted the Parents Meeting for the 2025 cohort of new students. The event, held at Syaichona Kholil Hall on the 10th floor of the UTM Rectorate Building, was attended by parents and guardians from various regions. For inclusivity, the session was also streamed live via the official Agribusiness UTM YouTube channel, ensuring that families unable to travel to Bangkalan could still take part virtually. The meeting underscored UTM’s commitment to building a strong academic community where collaboration between students, parents, and faculty becomes a foundation for student success.

The event was officially opened by the Head of the Agribusiness Study Program, Novi Diana Badrut Tamami, S.P., M.P., who also served as the main speaker. In her remarks, Novi Diana welcomed parents with warmth and gratitude for entrusting their children’s higher education journey to UTM. She emphasized that the transition from high school to university is not only a challenge for students but also a moment of adjustment for parents. Therefore, she stressed the importance of shared responsibility in accompanying students academically, socially, and emotionally.

In her presentation, she introduced key aspects of student life within the Agribusiness Study Program, including:

  • Academic curriculum and learning system – how courses are structured, the balance between theory and practice, and opportunities for fieldwork.
  • Study program profile and vision – highlighting the program’s long-term mission to produce competent, ethical, and globally competitive graduates in agribusiness.
  • Student code of conduct and ethics – outlining rules that govern academic integrity, discipline, and professional behavior.
  • Academic guidance and mentoring system – explaining how each student will be supervised by an academic advisor to monitor progress and provide personalized support.

According to Novi Diana, the involvement of parents plays a significant role in strengthening the mentoring process:

“Our goal is not only to prepare graduates with knowledge and skills in agribusiness but also to nurture individuals with strong character and integrity. To achieve this, synergy between the campus and parents is crucial,” she said.

One of the highlights of the event was the formal introduction of the entire teaching and administrative staff of the Agribusiness Study Program. Each lecturer and staff member was presented to parents, giving families a clearer picture of the people who will guide, teach, and support their children throughout their university journey.

This transparent introduction also included the announcement of academic advisor assignments. Each new student has been paired with a specific advisor, and parents were encouraged to get to know them. This advisor will act as the main contact point, responsible for monitoring the student’s development, providing guidance on academic decisions, and offering personal support when needed. By opening channels of communication between parents and advisors early on, the program hopes to create an environment where students feel continuously supported both at home and on campus.

A concrete step to strengthen this collaboration was the establishment of a WhatsApp group consisting of parents and the Head of the Agribusiness Study Program. This group is intended to serve as a two-way communication platform where information can be shared quickly and transparently. Through this channel, parents will be updated about important academic schedules, campus events, and student development activities. At the same time, parents will have a forum to ask questions, share concerns, or provide feedback.

“We want to ensure that communication does not stop at this meeting. With the WhatsApp group, we can build ongoing interaction, making it easier for parents to stay connected with the academic world of their children,” Novi Diana explained.

The meeting was met with enthusiasm, both from participants who attended in person and those who joined online. Many parents expressed appreciation for UTM’s efforts to actively involve families in the education process. Several parents shared that the meeting helped them better understand the challenges and opportunities their children will face as university students. Others felt reassured by the openness and accessibility of the lecturers and staff.

A parent of one new student commented, “As parents, sometimes we worry about how our children will adapt to college life, especially if they are far from home. Today’s meeting gives us peace of mind because we know the university has a structured system to guide and support them.”

The Agribusiness Study Program at UTM is known for its strong commitment to producing graduates who are ready to contribute to Indonesia’s agricultural development, especially in the context of global food security and sustainable agribusiness practices. With Madura Island’s agricultural potential and strategic position, UTM’s role in educating future agribusiness professionals is seen as vital. The Parents Meeting is one of many initiatives designed to ensure that students are not only academically prepared but also emotionally supported by their families and community.

The program integrates classroom learning with field experiences, internships, and community service, giving students the opportunity to apply knowledge in real-world contexts. By involving parents early, the study program hopes to create a holistic support system that will strengthen student resilience and motivation.

The success of the 2025 Batch Parents Meeting sets a precedent for stronger collaboration in the years to come. The Agribusiness Study Program plans to continue improving its parent engagement initiatives, from periodic updates to joint discussions on student development. The meeting also reflects UTM’s broader vision of becoming a campus that is inclusive, collaborative, and responsive to the needs of its students and stakeholders.

As the event concluded, there was a sense of optimism in the room. The synergy between the university, students, and parents is expected to create a nurturing academic environment where future agribusiness professionals can grow not only in competence but also in character and competitiveness.

“With this partnership, we believe our students will not only succeed academically but also become leaders who bring positive change to society,” Novi Diana affirmed.

The 2025 Parents Meeting of the Agribusiness Study Program at Universitas Trunojoyo Madura marked an important milestone in fostering collaboration between campus and families. Through open communication, clear academic guidance, and shared responsibility, the program aims to ensure that students are well-supported throughout their educational journey.

With enthusiastic participation both onsite and online, the event showcased the collective spirit of the UTM community: to shape students into competent, ethical, and competitive graduates ready to face the challenges of the agribusiness world. As the new academic year begins, the partnership built during this meeting is expected to grow stronger, paving the way for student success and reinforcing UTM’s role as a leading institution in agribusiness education in Indonesia.
