The objectives of this research were to describe the characteristics of social and economy of farmers corn in Madura and to find the reason why the farmer keeping local corn’s variety. The result showed that the farmer tended to plant corn because this work was easy to do and they a costumed to follow their parents. Corn was not main comodity and it was planted monoculturally or in mixed farming with peanut or cassava. All respondents never earned enough money. The problems in corn’s farming were low price, irrigation, market, limited cost, difficult to find lending, and expensive in fertilizer. The decision to plant Madura local corn was because of the farmer own reason while the decision to plant exotic corn from java because of the suggestion from goverment official. About 88% of farmers planted local corn variety to full fill their family’s need . They choosed this local variety because it was easy to be planted, its sweet taste, the seed easy to get, better yield quality, longer saved yield, low cost in managing yield after harvest, and more expensive of its market price.
